Monday October 3rd will see the festive start of the building of Sporthal Stadsbroek in Assen by provincial representative Ard van der Tuuk and alderman Jaap Kuin. Construction of this new sportsfacility marks the development of the ‘The Move- and Feelpark’. On this site a track and field facility, an ice rink, an indoor swimmingpool, footballfields and a pet farm were already realised. In a few years from now this ensemble will provide a complete and diverse public facility for Assen and its region, combined with the velodrome, the open air swimming pool and the Environmental Education Center.
Zwarts & Jansma Architects, ZJA designed ‘Sporthal Stadsbroek’, that is situated in relatively open and green country, neighbouring the Assen woodlands or Asserbos. Very often the commission to build a sportsfacility results in a large, high and closed volume. Such a choice would not fit into this green site and the ambitions one has for Stadsbroek Assen. The choice for a design that respects and adapts closely to its surroundings emphasizes its green, country character.
